When children participate in football, baseball, basketball, soccer, hockey, gymnastics, cheerleading and other sports, coaches may be among the closest adults when an emergency occurs.
Medical emergencies can include sudden cardiac arrest, choking, severe bleeding, allergic reactions and other potentially life-threatening situations.
Youth sports organizations should ensure coaches and staff know how to recognize an emergency, activate 911, begin CPR and quickly retrieve and operate an AED.
